One of the most common questions I get asked as a content marketer for wedding pros is, “Adrienna, how often do I need to post a blog?!” So today, I want to let you in on a little secret: Blogging isn’t about frequency. It’s about consistency. The key to blogging is to post consistently. That doesn’t mean every day or every week. Instead, it means that two quality posts per month are more important than posting 5 mini-posts that do not have in-depth content.
If you plan to throw up some pictures with no text, blogging will not work for you. Or if you post every week for three months and then go silent on your blog, that won’t help with your long-term strategy. No matter what type of wedding vendor you are – from a wedding photographer to a wedding planner, to a florist, you need a blog!
So while there is no magic number or secret formula, the rule of thumb is simple: publish blogs consistently, and don’t compromise on quality just to get more blogs out.
For wedding pros, I recommend posting 2-4 blogs per month. This way, you are coming up with a few posts per month and updating your website consistently. This also helps your social media strategy since you can easily break down a blog post into dozens of Instagram + Pinterest posts!
Blogging should be the core piece of your content marketing strategy. A single 500-word blog post can easily create weeks of content to share on social media. Repurposing content extends your audience’s reach. Posting a blog post without sharing it across multiple platforms limits your reach. Every blog post should be shared on Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook three times, at the very minimum.
Even just 1 blog per month will help boost your SEO rankings! And I bet 95% of your local market isn’t even blogging, giving you a huge advantage.
No matter the number per month, it is about being consistent. If you post every single week for two months, then take six months off and don’t post, it’s not helping your strategy. Blogging is a long-term strategy – SEO takes time, but SEO stands the test of time.
Just because it takes some time doesn’t mean it’s something you shouldn’t do! As they say, the best things in life take time. This is why when we work with clients, we explain that blogging and a good content strategy are for the long haul.
It’s not about having a Reel go viral overnight (which is great but doesn’t last long). It’s about having content go out every single month that is well written, SEO focused, captures your audience, and showcases your incredible work.
