Have you heard the newest featuring coming soon to Instagram? There will be a green dot to notify users when your friends are on the app. It’s similar to what you see on Facebook Messenger already, and Instagram already has an “Active Now” feature in users direct message inbox.

From Instagram’s Post:

“When your friends are active on Instagram, you’ll see a green dot next to their profile picture in various spaces within the app, including the Direct inbox and your friend list when you share a post from feed. You will only see status for friends who follow you or people who you have talked to in Direct. You can easily hide your own status and turn off the ability to see when your friends are active in your settings.”

The green dot will show up in the direct message inbox and share menus. You will only see the status of friends who follow you or people who you have talked to in direct messaging.

Not a fan? Don’t worry, you will have the option to hide your status, or turn the feature off.

To disable:

1. Click the settings button
2. Scroll down to Privacy and Security section
3. Go to Activity Status
4. Here you will be able to toggle this feature on or off
