I love Podcasts. If you watch my Instagram stories, you see me talk about and share my favorites all the time. I often listen to them as I work, especially on Wednesdays when I do Pinterest. So, I wanted to start a new series to share with you all: Podcast Of The Week. Each week I will share my favorite Podcast, and why I feel it is just oh, so good. And no, I don’t get paid to promote these, I am just simply an avid listener who wants to share the Podcasts that get me through each week.
Today’s Podcast Wednesday is by my favorite, Amy Porterfield. And Y’all, Amy has done it again. After listening to her Podcasts I always think “That was my favorite ever” she does another one, and it’s my new favorite.
Episode #255 is titled: What’s Keeping You Safe Is What’s Keeping You Stuck
And man, does it hit home. So often we feel stuck because we are scared of change. We want to stay in our safe bubble forever, and just cozy up to it. But, when you stay in that bubble, you don’t grow. You pause. Heck, you even shrink. So this episode really shook me, and reminded me WHY I chose to get uncomfortable. WHY I jump outside of this comfort zone.
In this episode, Amy covers four things that are likely keeping you stuck.
The first: Understanding your safety blanket. Now, this doesn’t mean a physical safety blanket, although I have had those. I had a literal safety blanket until I was 13, and lost it on a trip to Mexico. To this day, I miss the security I felt with that blanket. But it also can be an emotional safety blanket. What do you run to for safety in your business? For me, it was my job co-owning a bridal boutique. I had so much security in that job, so many years of knowledge, that running it was easy. The idea of doing anything outside of working in bridal was terrifying to me. I honestly thought that I would not be successful unless I worked in bridal. And boy, was I WRONG.
The second: What expectations of your own are holding you back? Is it that you don’t make enough money? What goals can you set to overcome these?
The third: Getting clear on your systems (and know the difference between systems vs. goals). I often get stuck on this one, since it can be easy to set goals- but not set the actual system you will implement to get there. It is easy to say, I want to make $5,000 this month. But what are you doing to get there? What systems do you have in place?
The fourth: Why you need to do something different. Amy encourages you to do things outside of your normal realm. Whether that is mixing up your Podcast type, or changing up your wardrobe, it’s important to do things differently. And I love this because as someone who can get bored easily, I love to mix things up. I recently bought a pair of light washed jeans. And you might be thinking, what does that have to do with anything? And it is because this is the first time I have worn light washed jeans in 10+ years. Yep, I have only owned dark jeans. But after weight loss, I feel better about my body, which means I don’t have to hide behind my typical black and dark blue. And while this is a small step in the right direction, it has inspired me to take leaps in other areas of my life.
One of the greatest things about The Creative VA Academy is learning from everyone. It is such an incredible group of women, who are so ready to take these big steps, no matter how scary they are.
